ATAS sets schedule for 50th anni

The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences will stage 11 special events as well as various exhibits throughout 1996 to mark the organization’s 50th anniversary.

Events include a Jan. 24 birthday salute to George Burns, featuring clips from the “Burns & Allen Show”; a program saluting commercials from the past 50 years on Feb. 28; “The Best of the Emmys” in July; and “50 Years of TV Politics, Presidents & Conventions.”

Other events are being planned and include looks at music, TV legends and the Acad’s student awards. A black-tie anniversary event will be held in the fall

The TV Academy will be vying for attention with the Museum of Television & Radio, which will open its West Coast facility in Beverly Hills in March. Additionally, the MTR is hosting its annual Los Angeles TV festival
