National Assn. of Broadcasters executive veepee John Abel has resigned from the trade org. He will top a new broadcasting technology company being launched by Chris-Craft and LIN Television Corp.

Abel, 52, has been with NAB since 1983 and has been one of the industry’s leaders in urging broadcasters to consider new business ventures using broadcast spectrum. Abel has also presided over the annual NAB convention, which has doubled in size during his tenure.

Abel, who resigned on Aug. 2, said he will be revealing more about the Chris-Craft/LIN company in several weeks. The company will be based in the D.C. suburbs of Reston, Va.
