ABC and the Carsey-Werner Co. have inked a two-year renewal deal on “Grace Under Fire” carrying through the 1997-98 season.
The move comes at a logical time, since C-W is selling the series – which is just starting its third season – in syndication. Terms weren’t disclosed, but the agreement includes the show’s first option year and thus involves a substantial license fee.
Starring Brett Butler, “Grace” spent one full season behind “Home Improvement” before shifting to anchor Wednesday night last spring. The series began the current season with a strong 14.5 rating, 23 share in Nielsen, and improved on those numbers last week with a 16.5/26.
Carsey-Werner has already licensed the show’s off-network rights to Fox’s WNYW New York and independent WPWR Chicago, but at prices believed below what the company had asked.
