Richard A. Moore, a broadcast and cable industry executive who was an aide to President Richard Nixon and was a former ambassador to Ireland, died Jan. 27 at his home in Washington, D.C. He was 81.
Moore was president of Times Mirror Broadcasting from 1951-62 and later was head of Southwestern Cable in California. He also helped launch “The McLaughlin Group” in 1981 and won an Emmy for the program in 1984.
Moore became assistant general counsel for ABC in 1946. He was promoted to general manager of ABC’s Western division before joining Times Mirror.
He is survived by his second wife and five children.
