Michel Bonnet, head of the International Film Market at the Cannes Film Festival, died March 3 at the Garches hospital in Paris following a lengthy illness. He was 57.
Bonnet joined the Cannes organizing team in 1981, having worked at EMI Italiana and Pathe Marconi EMI. Initially, Bonnet was general secretary of the Cannes Film Festival and director of the market.
In 1991 he ceased working for the festival to devote his time entirely to the market.
Responsibility for this year’s event has fallen to Marcel Lathiere, a Cannes veteran who worked alongside Bonnet for many years.
