Helena E. Humann

Helena E. Humann, praised for her perf as Peach on the 1989 miniseries “Lonesome Dove,” died Dec. 13 in Dallas after a long illness. She was 52.

In CBS’ “Lonesome Dove,” Humann played the widowed Peach, the sister-in-law of Sheriff July Johnson who kept pressure on the Arkansas lawman to find her husband’s killer.

Humann got her start in “The Last Picture Show” (1971) as the town tart, Jimmy Sue.

She appeared in more than a dozen TV and film productions, including “Tender Mercies” and the award-winning PBS piece “Who Built This Place?”

In legit she worked with the likes of Vincent Price, Mercedes McCambridge and Herschel Bernardi. She shared the stage with Van Johnson in numerous productions including “Send Me No Flowers” and “Boeing! Boeing!”

She played the Mother Superior in “Problem Child.”

Born in Dallas, she graduated from Texas Lutheran College in Seguin and worked as a teacher for several years.

She is survived by a brother, a niece and two nephews.
