GLORIA WILLS LANDES

Gloria Wills Landes, a former Broadway showgirl who founded a school for aspiring teen actors and playwrights, died Aug. 4 of breast cancer in Mamaroneck, N.Y. She was 69.

Landes worked on Broadway in the 1940s, appearing in the Rodgers & Hammerstein musical “Allegro” and the revue “Make Mine Manhattan” with Sid Caesar.

She left the theater to marry silver importer Jack Landes. Later, she founded the school for teens, which was absorbed by the State University of New York at Purchase. Actor Matt Dillon was among her students.
