James Spader has entered into negotiations for New Line Cinema’s “Island of Dr. Moreau,” which stars Marlon Brando and Val Kilmer. Despite rumors circulating that Kilmer has had second thoughts about his role on the project, sources say he is definitely in for the male lead.

The project, directed by Richard Stanley from a script by Stanley and David Hare, is expected to go before the cameras this October.

Spader, repped by ICM’s Toni Howard, last starred in the box office hit “Stargate” at MGM.
