‘Sisters Rosensweig’ & Nepotism At CBS

CBS Entertainment chief Les Moonves would like to be in business with his cousin, award-winning playwright Wendy Wasserstein. Moonves is negotiating along with the BBC to develop a sitcom out of Wasserstein’s 1993 Broadway hit “The Sisters Rosensweig.” “When I saw a preview of ‘Sisters Rosensweig, ‘I went backstage and told Wendy I thought it would make a great sitcom – and then I immediately felt like an idiot, but she didn’t take it the wrong way,” says Moonves. “We’re currently attempting to work something out with the BBC, and it’s a little tricky because they like to develop things for short runs, Like six episodes. Our needs are obviously different.”

If those differences can be ironed out, a “Sisters Rosensweig” sitcom could find its way to CBS in a year to 18 months. (More on CBS, page 27.)
