SelecTV joins NBC-Mirror net bid

SelecTV, one of the U.K.’s leading production companies, has joined NBC and the Mirror Group in their consortium to bid for the license to run the country’s fifth terrestrial television network.

HTV, the ITV company part-owned by U.S. cable giant Tele-Communications Inc., is believed to be in talks to become part of the consortium, in which SelecTV, NBC and the Mirror Group each will hold a 20% stake.

SelecTV’s decision to join the NBC/Mirror group brings it into direct competition with Clive Hollick’s MAI, the company with which it teamed in a successful bid for an ITV license in ’91.
