SABC Panel To Question Journalists

Journalists at the South African Broadcasting Corp. will be asked to reveal their past army, police and political party links to an internal commission.

The move comes after SABC reporter Carol Lane was called as a state witness in the murder trial of ex-defense minister Magnus Malan over the 1987 massacre of 13 people connected to the then-banned African National Congress (ANC).

SABC chairwoman Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri said journalists will not be forced to testify before the SABC commission, but will have the opportunity to “confess their political activities.”
