Spotted on Capitol Hill last week: Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole (R-Kan.) huddling with Fox chairman Rupert Murdoch and new CBS president Peter Lund.

Sources said Murdoch and Lund pleaded with the GOP presidential hopeful to quash attempts by some Republicans to force broadcasters to bid for spectrum they’ll need to transition to the delivery of digital TV signals. Senate Commerce Committee chairman Larry Pressler (R-S.D.) has been the main proponent of spectrum auctions, which if enacted could cost broadcasters hundreds of millions of dollars.

There was no word on whether Dole took the opportunity to chide Murdoch for what he’s labeled the “loveless sex” and “mindless violence” in today’s films.
