Mitsui Buys Dutch Telescreen

Japan’s Mitsui & Co., one of the largest trading companies in the world with interests ranging from real estate to telecommunications, has moved into European program production with its acquisition of Dutch-based animation specialist Telescreen.

In the first Japanese-European deal of its kind, Mitsui has established a spinoff company, Pri-Mation Media, which has wholly acquired Telescreen and its associated trade names Telescreen Distribution and Telescreen Licensing.

Financial details have not been disclosed, but it is known that Dennis Livson, Telescreen founder/president, has retained some copyrights and the Telescreen Intl. division. Under the new deal, Livson will serve as creative consultant to Pri-Mation.
