Former AMC Entertainment president of marketing DON HARRIS will join DreamWorks Oct. 2. The announcement, which had been expected, is the second exhibition vet to join the company in the past two months, following JIM THARP from General Cinema.
The two will set up what’s being called DreamWorks Distribution, the domestic theatrical release arm of the company.
Since leaving AMC, Harris had been pursued by several companies. Harris said he opted for DreamWorks because he believes the firm is bound for success.
Mandalay Entertainment, Peter Guber’s company on the Sony lot, has named JUDY HART as veepee of international distribution.
Hart will be responsible for managing the international distribution of Mandalay product. She will work with Mandalay’s overseas partners and Columbia TriStar Intl. Distribution.
Polygram Video has named industry veteran BILL SONDHEIM to president of its domestic operation, giving him oversight of the company’s sales, marketing, acquisition and finance activities. He replaces Gene Silverman, the current prez/CEO, who is stepping down to pursue other interests.
Sondheim, who will be charged with stepping up the vidarm’s release of theatrical filmed product, officially assumes his new post Jan. 1,1996. He was previously the vidarm’s senior veep of sales and marketing.
The vidarm boasts theatrical releases, as well as sports and kidvid, including the successful X-Men superhero line.
Sondheim will report to Jim Caparro, prez of Polygram Group Distribution, and work closely with Stewart Till, president of international for Polygram Filmed Entertainment.
