Tele-Communications Inc. supremo John Malone, a free-market propagandist, is about to become a card-carrying member of the board of directors of the Cato Institute. A Washington, D.C.-based libertarian think tank, the Cato Institute operates with the underlying credo that the only good regulation is a dead regulation. When the Democrats were running D.C., Cato’s ideas were given short shrift inside the Beltway. But now that Newt & Co. are calling the shots on Capitol Hill, it’s a respectable place for Malone to lend his name.
Cato is not stopping with simply bagging the TCI chairman in becoming a player in the media policy wars. The institute is looking to hire a full time telecommunications policy specialist, so all you counter-counterculture media pundits, start prepping those resumes.
