Iraq’s Mother of all radio bounces back

Remember “the mother of all battles,” Iraqi President Saddam Hussein’s famous catch phrase for the 1991 Gulf War? It’s back! Well, back on the air, anyway.

“Mother of Battles” also was the name of Hussein’s wartime radio propaganda mouthpiece. And just in time to greet a new buildup of U.S. military might in the Gulf, the station is broadcasting from Baghdad – under the same name.

In February 1991, “Mother” was bombed out of business when warplanes destroyed its Baghdad transmitter.
