The technical support staff inside Time Warner has been on Red Alert since news emerged that the media giant was attempting to finesse an $8 billion purchase of Turner Broadcasting. Given the mandate to put up an elaborate wall of video monitors to serve as a backdrop for the press conference once the deal is done, Time Warner techies have had several false starts as the deal has dragged on. “First they told us to be ready for a press conference last Monday (Sept. 11); then they said be ready for the end of the week,” says a Time Warner techie. “Now they say for sure this week. Let’s hope so.”
