France Celebration: That’s The ticket

France’s yearlong Premier Siecle du Cinema (1st Century of Cinema) celebration kicks off Jan. 15 with operation “Ticket of the Century.”

Nationwide, every ticket sold that Sunday will be issued with a voucher good through Dec. 27 for one additional movie at any theater in France.

The National Federation of French Cinemas (repping more than 4,400 screens) is backing the massive two-for-one event, to inform the general public that film exhibition as we know it was born on Dec. 28, 1895 when the Lumiere Bros.’ short subjects were first projected for a paying audience at the Salon Indien of the Grand Cafe on Boulevard des Capucines in Paris.

The ducats are designed as commemoratives and will be returned.
