While kids across America are delighting in the adventures of Sheriff Woody and Buzz Lightyear in “Toy Story,” parents and other grownups are rolling in the aisles thanks to the film’s wisecracking Mr. Potato Head, voiced by that sultan of insults, Don Rickles. In one touching scene, PH exhorts another toy to kiss his butt by removing his lips and demonstrating the maneuver himself.

Unfortunately for adults in the audience, at least one Potato Head gag was rejected by Disney as being a bit too adult. Sources close to the temperamental tuber say scripter Joss Whedon proposed a scene in which Potato Head pulls out his eyes and tosses them under Little Bo Peep’s dress to get the forbidden view. No dice, said Disney Animation, which still has egg on its face after Variety broke the story of Jessica Rabbit’s split-second crotch flash in “Who Framed Roger Rabbit.”

Asked to confirm the story, Mr. Potato Head yanked out his lips and said, “No comment.”
