Sources say Leonardo DiCaprio is being eyed as a possibility to star in Francis Ford Coppola’s “On the Road,” based on the cult classic by Jack Kerouac.
Coppola, who was conducting a casting meeting over the weekend on the project, and DiCaprio have already met to discuss working together. Both parties are repped by Creative Artists Agency. It’s unclear what part the young star would play in the project.
“On the Road” is being adapted by Michael Herr (“Full Metal Jacket,” “Apocalypse Now”) for Zoetrope. DiCaprio, who was nominated for an Academy Award for Paramount Pictures’ “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape?,” is currently in Europe shooting “Total Eclipse.” He stars in the upcoming “The Basketball Diaries” from New Line Cinema.
