“Jenny Jones” is not the only talk-show resulting in bloodshed. Popular Italian TV program “Perdonami” (Forgive Me) made news twice this week when an attempt on the life of a guest on the show ricocheted into another killing.
Aired on Rete 4 – the woman-oriented web in Silvio Berlusconi’s Fininvest invest trio – the show throws feuding guests together while host Davide Mengacci attempts to cajole them into a reconciliation.
In an episode that ran two months ago, philandering husband Angelo Locci persuaded his wife to forgive his extramarital digressions by promising to be faithful in the future.
Soon after appearing on the show, however, he broke his promise. Leaving a nightclub with his new flame some time later, Locci was greeted by the woman’s husband, who fired eight gunshots, seriously wounding them both. The item made the March 21 evening news on Fininvest’s Canale 5.
Watching the coverage at her home, Donatella Galimberti drew immediate parallels with her own husband, journalist Luciano Zignani, who had confessed his infidelities in the past. Her suspicion of subsequent affairs led to a violent argument, during which the woman snatched up a steak knife, stabbing and killing Zignani.
Professing to be greatly disturbed by the events, Mengacci said: “It’s the second tragedy in two days, but my program is not responsible. It certainly wasn’t ‘Perdonami’ that started off all this.”
