French communications and textile giant Chargeurs has submerged newly acquired MGM hard-tops in Holland into its Pathe holdings and given the theater chain the greenlight to continue what for this country has become a multiplex building boom.

Chargeurs acquired the 65-screen chain last June when it was put on the auction block, along with other MGM holdings in Europe, by the bank Credit Lyonnais.

Wim Van Wouw, manager of the newly renamed Pathe Cinemas, says plans are going ahead for the opening of 16 new screens in Groningen and the Hague before year’s end, and another seven-screener early next year in Rotterdam.

Other projects on the drawing board for 1996 include the expansion of the vintage Tuschinski theater in downtown Amsterdam.
