Carlton buys stake in Gallic cable

British media group Carlton Communications has made its first move into continental Europe by taking a 24% stake in the proposed Gallic cable channel France Tele Films.

The majority partner in the venture is the pubcaster France Television with a 56% stake. Arnon Milchan’s Regency has a 5% stake, and the remaining 15% is held by cultural web La Sept/Arte.

France Tele Films will screen European drama series, telepics and feature films. Much of the programming will be drawn from the France TV library, while Carlton will provide British shows from its library.
