The Los Angeles Times has launched an ambitious journalistic voyage of discovery in the realm of showbiz. Late last month, hundreds of multiple-choice questionnaires ear-marked for the biggest actors, directors, screenwriters, producers, agents and studio executives went out in the mail, complete with a cover letter from Shelby Coffey III, the Times’ editor and exec VP, saying, “The survey is confidential and anonymous. Please do not sign your name.”
The Times plans to compile the responses to the 67-question survey and print a massive overview piece in the months ahead.
Some of the hard-hitting questions include: “Which one male actor working in the film industry today do you think makes the smartest choices in the roles he accepts?”; “Who do you think is the most impressive talent to come along in the film industry during the last three years?”; and “What is the one thing about the film industry that makes you most proud these days?”
