“The X-Files” creator Chris Carter’s planning to script a feature based on the series, with hopes of shooting next summer. It sounds iffy, if only because star David Duchovny has resisted the idea of making his screen starring debut in the same venue.
Carter’s office said there has been some discussion, but that Carter himself has been very busy writing and directing early episodes of the show’s third season. And there’s mixed thought about doing a feature so quickly. “Star Trek” grew comfortably from cult to franchise status, but that may have been because fans were deprived of fresh episodes for years. The worst-case scenario of transforming a cult fave into a movie is “Twin Peaks,” to which “X-Files” has sometimes been compared. The “Peaks” film was a career valley for David Lynch.
