New Line TV joins AOL

New Line Television has announced plans for a channel on America Online.

The new venture, christened the Hub, will be targeted to 12-to-24-year-olds, with the core user group in the 18-24 range. This marks the first time the “young adult” demographic has been specifically addressed by AOL. The Hub is scheduled to bow this summer.

According to New Line Television president Bob Friedman, the channel’s programming will go beyond message boards focusing on New Line TV shows. He said elements will be created expressly for AOL, including a “morning show” – which users could access at night – chat rooms, promos and contests.

Friedman said New Line will develop AOL material that can be spun off into TV shows, feature films, games, merchandise or other areas. Plans are also in the works to release CD-ROM companion pieces to online program elements.

Advertising, too, will play a visible role on the Hub.
