The hype is high on the long-awaited New Regency film “Boys on the Side,” with Whoopi Goldberg, Mary-Louise Parker and Drew Barrymore on the randiest all-girl road trip since Thelma and Louise ran out of road.
The town has been talking about how the film will turn Drew Barrymore into a fullfledged star, and New Regency, taking no chances she’ll go elsewhere, is close to finalizing a deal to pay Barrymore $3.5 million for her next film.
The producers and Barrymore’s reps are considering several options, but sources said she hasn’t decided what that next film will be. Barrymore began acting at age 6 in “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial,” and had well-publicized problems adjusting to adolescence. Now she’s in position to become one of the best-paid young actresses in town.
