Biz jumps; ‘Kiss’ 451g

All but three shows reported B.O. gains during Week 41 (March 13-19), boosting total receipts by 9.4% to $8,374,580. Attendance came in at 198,383, a 6.2% hike.

“Kiss of the Spider Woman” took the biggest jump – a $106,223 hike. “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying,” playing a full week of previews, and “Damn Yankees,” were not far behind.

Three shows saw drops: “Jackie Mason: Politically Incorrect” – with an additional performance – slid a bit and struggled with only 32.9% attendance. “Tommy” and “Love! Valour! Compassion!” also shows dipped.

“Having Our Say” played five previews, with an opening night set for April 6 at the Booth Theater.

With unfavorable notices and a sluggish B.O. performance, “Uncle Vanya” closed March 19 after 23 previews and 29 performances.

Receipts for the musicals totaled $6,990,464, 84% of the Broadway total, with paid attendance of 152,269 at 86.2% of musical capacity. Plays tallied $1,384,116, 16% of the total, with attendance of 46,114 at 70.9% of play capacity.

Average ticket prices were $42.21 for all shows, $45.90 for musicals and $30.01 for plays.
