Amblin bows play grants

After months of negotiations, Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment and the Off Broadway company Playwrights Horizons have announced the first playwrights to receive $10,000 commissions for new plays.

The commissions are being underwritten by Amblin, which will hold an option on adapting a commissioned work for film. Playwrights would be a producing partner on any screen adaptations to come out of the program.

The writers are Neena Beber, Neal Bell, Marion McClinton, Nicky Silver and the playwright-composer team of Mark St. Germain and Randy Courts.
