Longtime Alliance Releasing vice president Patrice Theroux has been named executive veepee of the Canadian distrib, the country’s leading film distributor, and the day-to-day management of Alliance Releasing’s video division, previously Theroux’s domain, will now be handled by David Partridge, who was just hired as general manager of video for the company.
Theroux’s appointment is a reflection of the rapid growth of video distribution and TV sales at Alliance, two departments run by Theroux over the past couple of years. Spurred by hot titles such as “The Mask,” the video division generated C$19 million ($13.8 million) in revenue last year, up from C$13 million ($9.5 million) the previous year.
As executive VP, Theroux will work even more closely than before with Alliance Releasing prexy Victor Loewy, and Theroux will oversee the flow of information from the theatrical to video to TV departments, spend more time with major suppliers like Turner and New Line, and help beef up the company’s acquisitions activity.
“There’s still room for lots of growth on the TV and video side, and we want to capitalize on that,” said Theroux.
