Student winners

Columbia U.’s Caroline Kava has nabbed the grand prize (and $3,000) in the IFFM’s student showcase competition. Kava’s film, “Polio Water,” will be aired at some point on the Independent Film Channel, the sponsor of the student showcase. Runners-up from each of the other seven participating universities will take $1,000 prizes – and get their films shown on the channel.

They are NYU’s Gregory Wilson, “The Last Call”; Ohio U.’s Igor Kovacevich, Hans Frank, Rocco Hindman and Brian Parker, “Drawing Lots”; Emerson College’s Aparna Bakhle, “Ecclesiastes 2: 11”; UCLA’s Aion Velie, “The Organ Grinder”; New York’s School of Visual Arts’ John Kelleran, “The Painter”; USC’s Jonathan Cordish, “Lost Mojave”; and Colorado U.’s Derek M. Cianfrance, “Raw Footage.”
