Smith Take On New Role

Bradford W. Smith, John Singleton’s Creative Artists Agency rep, has joined New Deal Prods, as a producing partner to the director of “Boyz N the Hood.” Singleton’s production company has more than a year to run on its first-look, nonexclusive deal with Columbia Pictures.

At New Deal, Smith will work hand-in-hand with Singleton developing material, much as CAA agent Paula Wagner shifted from being Tom Cruise’s point person at the percentery to being his producing partner.

“Brad is a very talented guy and he has been with me from the beginning, so it’s great to see our relationship progress to the next stage,” Singleton said.

Kathleen O’Steen, Anita M. Busch, Beth Laski, Jay Greene and John Brodie contributed to this report.
