Prod’n facility set for London

A London version of Lantana Center, the well-known production facility in Santa Monica, Calif., is in the works. Lantana owners Alex Winitsky and Arlene Sellers say a deal has been struck to build a 200,000-square-foot complex on property adjacent to the landmark Battersea Powerstation, located directly on the Thames.

“We think there is a need for this,” Winitsky told Variety. “There is nothing like it right in town.”

The ultra-modern Santa Monica facility houses Digital Magic, a visual effects company, the offices of Disney-based Caravan Pictures, a restaurant, as well as the offices of filmmakers such as Norman Jewison. The facility’s largest tenant is the Todd-AO sound-mixing studios, formerly Skywalker Sound.

Lantana’s owners say they are aiming for a similar mix of tenants for their London annex, including an eatery. Their design calls for two four-story buildings to be erected, with a projected opening date in early 1997.
