Jim Carrey, who shot to stardom with “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective” and instantly became a top box office draw, will be honored as NATO/Sho West Comedy Star of the Year at the organization’s annual convention, March 6-9 in Las Vegas.
Carrey, who stars next as the Riddler in “Batman Forever,” will receive the award at the Warner Bros.-sponsored luncheon March 8. Carrey will be the first recipient of the new award. The actor also starred in New Line Cinema’s “The Mask” and “Dumb and Dumber,” both of which have been blockbusters, grossing more than $100 million each domestically.
Prior to his film work, Carrey starred on the Fox TV series “In Living Color.”
His next project is “Ace Ventura II” for Morgan Creek Prods. and Warner Bros.
