TriStar Pictures has re-slated its Julia Roberts and John Malkovich starrer “Mary Reilly” for release in New York and Los Angeles at Christmas to make the deadline for Oscar consideration.
The studio had previously slated the pic for a summer release. TriStar president of production Stacey Snider said limited release will follow on Jan 12 before the studio rolls the picture out wide.
The project, which was years in the making, re-teamed helmer Stephen Frears with screenwriter/director Christopher Hampton. It stars Roberts as Dr. Jekyll’s chamber-maid, who falls in love with him and discovers Mr. Hyde.
Buena Vista also has just decided to move back release of the Hollywood Pictures and Caravan Pictures’ urban drama “Dead Presidents” from July to October. A firm release date has not yet been determined. The film is helmed by Allen and Albert Hughes and stars Larenz Tate, Keith David and Chris Tucker.
