Oscar nominee Martin Landau and “Home Improvement’s” Jonathan Taylor Thomas have been set to star in a live-action version of “Pinocchio” for Savoy Pictures and the Kushner-Locke Co.
The actors – Landau as Geppetto and Thomas as Pinocchio – are slated to go before the cameras July 9 in England and then in Prague during the 11 week shoot for helmer Steve Barron (“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”).
Pre-production on the $25 million-budgeted project started last month in London. Four of the project’s supporting roles remain unfilled.
With the Savoy/Kushner-Locke project going forward, the status of Francis Ford Coppola’s version of “Pinocchio” remains uncertain. Previously, the project had been pushed back indefinitely. Santa Monica Pictures also has slated a $25 million version of the classic Carlo Collodi tale, with Geppetto as a computer scientist who makes a computer-generated boy.
