‘King’ Wins FIC Top Honors

Buena Vista Pictures’ “The Lion King” has been voted the Charles M. Powell Award for best marketed motion picture of 1994 by the Film Information Council.

The picture beat out four other finalists, which had previously won monthly marketing awards: TriStar Pictures’ “Philadelphia,” Gramercy’s “Four Weddings and a Funeral,” Paramount Pictures’ “Forrest Gump” and Miramax Films’ “Pulp Fiction.”

Brett Dicker, senior veepee of promotions for Buena Vista, and Cherise McVicar, Disney’s director of national promotions, accepted the award on behalf of the company’s marketing department.
