Director Robert Altman, whose “Ready to Wear (Pret-a-Porter)” opened Christmas Day, has been named winner of the American Cinema Editors‘ filmmaker of the year award.

Altman will receive his Golden Eddie award at the 45th annual ACE Eddie Awards March 18 at the Beverly Hilton.

He broke into features with “MASH” in 1970. His pic “The Player” won the best director prize at the Cannes Film Festival in 1992.

Nominations for the Eddie Awards for film editing will be announced Feb. 7 in theatrical features, miniseries, two-hour movies-for-TV, one-hour series for TV, half-hour series for TV and student competition.

ACE officials also announced that David Bretherton and Anne V. Coates would be honored with career achievement awards.
