IBM Europe recently announced plans to build a disk drive production facility in Budapest, following a series of tax break agreements with the Hungarian government. The move represents the largest capital investment by a Western information technology company in the Eastern bloc and should be up and running in about six months, company officials said. The plant should help alleviate the large European demand for disk drives with production expected to hit 90,000 units a month by next year.
