Thesp sues Stone over ‘Killer’ canning

GOOD MORNING: Oliver Stone’s NBK Inc. (as in “Natural Born Killers”) is on the receiving end of a $ 2,550,000 suit filed by thesp Lawrence Tierney. It all started, according to Tierney, during rehearsals involving Woody Harrelson when ad-libbed dialogue (encouraged, he says, by Stone) hit the boiling point. Next thing Tierney knew, he was off the picture. In reply to an inquiry by SAG, NBK sent ’em a letter with their version of the incident, which Tierney claims is untrue, libelous (enumerated in his complaint) and damaging to his career. His demand is for $ 2,500,000 for libel, $ 50,000 for the salary he claims is due him for a five-week role as a deputy prison warden. Tierney, you recall, starred in the classic 1945 “Dillinger” and later in “San Quentin.” Since the “Natural Born Killers” incident (April 1993) Tierney has worked with Arnold Schwarzenegger in “Junior” and is now doing a cartoon series voice for Hyperion Prods. Tierney says he has not had a drink in over two years … The detailed testimony in the O.J.Simpson hearings is contagious. Although the director suffered busted ribs, he tells me, “I’m in better shape than I’ve been in” and he’s readying the September start of “A Horse for Mr. Barnum” in Spain with Bob Mitchum as Barnum, Bruce Boxleitner, Jim Coburn, Henry Silva, newcomer Josh Santa and Assumpta Serna co-starring in the $ 20 million pic produced by Burt Kennedy. Ray Homer co-exec produces with Budd.

ALTHOUGH ELIZABETH TAYLOR CANCELED her appearance and the private party to follow “The Three Tenors” concert at Dodger Stadium July 16 (to benefit her AIDS foundation), there will be funds raised for AIDS research, according to Tibor Rudas, the show’s producer. He will set up his own tent on the grounds for charity-contributors. Those who sent in $ for Taylor’s event will get back their money. “We have a ‘discreet list,’ ” said the show’s general manager, Wayne Baruch. He assured me, “There’s no rancor, no disagreement. Elizabeth just didn’t feel she could do it — as a perfectionist.” Meanwhile, he says, “It is of small consequence to the concert itself, which is sold out. And to make it possible for artistic and cultural orgs. to see/hear Jose Carreras, Placido Domingo, Luciano Pavarotti, Zubin Mehta and the L.A. Philharmonic, we have made blocks of tickets available to them (the orgs) to use for their fundraisers. It will also be a tremendous artistic success, to be seen in 100 satellited countries with an audience of a billion.” The Warner Music Group’s Atlantic Records will have the album and video … When Garth Brooks learned not all of the 1,000 tickets were sold of his contribution to the “One Voice” charity at his July 14 Hollywood Bowl’ing, Garth himself bought up the remaining tix for the homeless-helping org … A unique publishing happening is in the making: “Brando,” Peter Manso’s “unauthorized” biog (Hyperion) will be excerpted in the USA’s September Vanity Fair, while Marlon’s own autobiog, from Random House, reportedly is headed for treatment in September’s British Vanity Fair.

THIS IS THE REAL THING — NO NIGHTMARE.
