‘Honors’ crew takes Jacksons to court

GOOD MORNING: Don’t say I didn’t warn ’em, but on March 11 it was noted here, “Full payment is yet to come to crew and staff who worked on the ‘Jackson Family Honors,’ Feb. 22 NBC-TV special, which was pre-taped at the MGM Grand by Jackson Communications Inc.” Over two million-$ is due to union and guild workers plus suppliers of the show, which also had an aborted start in Atlantic City last year during Michael Jackson’s illness and tribulations. Now, Gary Smith is left no choice but to legally pursue payment from J.C.I., and attorney Fred Richman (Richman, Lawrence, Mann & Greene) is doing just that as you read this … Continuing in the legal mood, Tracey Davis, Sammy Jr.’s and Mai Britt’s 32 -year-old daughter, is meeting with attorney Bob Finkelstein to commence action to try and have Shirley Rhodes removed as executor of Sammy’s estate. Tracey tells me, “My cause is to get things straightened out. My quest is to see his legacy be a happy one.” And to further her plans, she and the family are readying a special on Sammy via Four Point Entertainment. Sez Tracey, “When he (Sammy) was so sick, he asked me, ‘When I’m gone, do something nice for me.’ ” This special will be real nice, she promises. Tracey says she and Sammy’s widow, Altovise Davis, have reconciled their differences as well … Lou Diamond Phillips and model/actress Kelly Preston (NOT John Travolta’s wife Kelly Preston!) will wed April 24 here in L.A. He has wound editing “Sioux City,” which he stars in and directs for Cabin Fever Entertainment “– on time and budget,” Phillips adds. It’s his second outing doing double duty behind/in front of the cameras; the first, “Dangerous Touch,” airs via HBO next month. Phillips is now on a college campus tour of six schools, lecturing on Native American rights for the Winds of Life organization. “It’s an outsider’s-insider’s view,” he explains, “to get the message out that there are problems out there.”

He also has his Carmel ranch (where he’ll Easter with family) and will probably keep an apartment in his BevHilton. He’s currently at his Atlantic City digs doing commercials … Ross Hunter is home from Cedars-Sinai following quintuple bypass surgery. He sounded fine and thanks all his friends for their good wishes. He says letters and cards came in from around the world to cheer him … Dudley Moore’s invited back to England to star in “The Guv’nor,” a dramatic feature for producer Stanley Sopel, director David Green … Lalo Schifrin heads to Cannes to be on the fest jury. He’ll be reunited with jury president Clint Eastwood, for whom Schifrin wrote 10 movie scores, including the original “Dirty Harry.” In July, Schifrin shifts to concerts at Montreux and Istanbul with a “Jazz Meets the Symphony” orch. No, Eastwood will not be on the 88s … Linda Thompson and husband David Foster are writing songs for Amblin’s “Little Rascals”– it’s Foster’s first film tuning since “The Bodyguard.”

FAMILY AFFAIR: The “Murphy Brown” seg titled “My Movie With Louis” guestars Candice Bergen’s husband, director Louis Malle, and director Garry Marshall. John Rich directs ’em all. Rich is also set to direct four more NBC “The Second Half” segs following the success of his previous quartet of shows, which gave the once-canceled series another chance … Jackie Collins, bowing her jewelry line on Home Shopping Network Thursday and Friday, will also plug her upcoming appearance in May with a limited (signed) edition of her “Hollywood Kids” (Simon & Schuster) about a 24-year-old madam, daughter of a Hollywood exec … Gary Socol, producer of E! Entertainment’s “Gossip Show,” signed with Crown Publishers for his book, “Celebrity Dreaming”– civilians’ dreams about celebs … Wendy Finerman and Mark Canton welcomed son James C. March 25 at UCLA. They have two other children, a boy and a girl … Mikey Jordan, fun and friendly maitre d’/brother of Matteo’s Matty Jordan, suffered a stroke and is in the intensive care unit at UCLA Medical.
