Jamie and Fran (Leila Kenzle) secretly hook up cable for the bedroom TV. Paul , thinking Jamie paid for it, accepts it until he decides the reception’s bad and wants to call the cable people. The situation’s dire. They manage to wipe out the entire building’s cable system; Ira (John Pankow) destroys the electric power, and everyone is sore at the Buckmans.

The Manhattan blackout continues on NBC’s other sitcoms tonight, “Friends” and “Madman of the People.” Last time, NBC sent a hurricane through its Saturday block of sitcoms in the name of unity. What’s next? The Blob?

David Steinberg skillfully directs, and the principals make the most out of the amusement. As always, “Mad About You” shines as a kickoff for the Thursday slate.
