Shatner, Glam Slam and KCET offer quake relief

William Shatner will be featured speaker, and will offer some of his personal memorabilia for auction, at the Creation Star Trek Convention this weekend in a fundraiser for earthquake victims. The convention will be held Saturday and Sunday at the Los Angeles Airport Hilton, 5711 W. Century Blvd.

The Glam Slam nightclub downtown will host an Earthquake Relief Dance Party tonight to benefit the American Red Cross. Esai Morales (“La Bamba”) and Gabrielle Carteris (“Beverly Hills, 90210”) will host the benefit.

Half of the proceeds will be donated to the Southern California chapter of the Red Cross. Nick and Jim Colachis, Prince’s Paisley Park Enterprises and Florence Figueroa will produce the event. For more information on the benefit, call (310) 205-2665.

KCET is working with the American Red Cross to distribute toy donations from Children’s Television Workshop, the Lyons Group and Lakeshore Learning Materials to children victimized by last week’s earthquake.

The pubcaster continues to air spots designed to help kids cope with the quake plus repeats of the special “Surviving the Big One.”

Spanish-language station KVEA-TV will air a 14-hour telethon to benefit earthquake victims Feb. 6. The Telemundo special will feature live hook-ups to San Antonio, Miami and Puerto Rico.
