Reality added to ABC daytime

ABC said it will introduce the new Buena Vista TV series “Mike & Maty” to its daytime lineup April 11, replacing the “Home” show.

What remains to be seen is what sort of affiliate support the network can muster for the one-hour program.

Hosts Michael Burger and Maty Monfort and ABC daytime and Buena Vista personnel are touting the show to stations at the National Assn. of Television Program Executives convention.

ABC tried to replace “Home” last spring with Canadian talkshow “Shirley,” but the plan was ultimately scuttled due to resistance from affiliates, who felt they could do better making their own deals for syndicated talk series. “Home,” and now “Mike & Maty,” represent the lone reality hour on ABC’s schedule, which includes 3 1/2 hours of soaps in the afternoon.
