Paulson ties books to pix

Producer Daniel L. Paulson and literary agent Bill Burns have formed a unique arrangement that will allow them to simultaneously generate TV movies and books derived from the same fact-based material.

The producer, who has a first-look TV deal at Viacom, is alsolooking to tap into the synergy that relationship might provide based on the company’s recent merger with Paramount, whose publishing assets include Simon & Schuster and Pocket Books.

Paulson is currently one of five producer clients of Industry Research & Development, a company that finds sensational true stories and makes them available to producers, publishers and talkshows. He called the relationship with Burns, who also runs his own publishing operation, Princeton Publishing West, a natural connection.

Burns noted the material ranges from “America’s Child,” an upcoming “insta-book” on the kidnapping and murder of Northern California teen Polly Klaas, which made national headlines, to an obscure story about a woman who has to admit a marital infidelity when it’s discovered her child has a congenital disease.
