KCAL-TV continued its strong showing at the Golden Mike Awards Saturday, nabbing the best 60-minute newscast category for the second straight year.
The local station won for its “Prime 9 News at 10 p.m.,” anchored by Jerry Dunphy and Tawny Little.
KCAL was the only station to be nominated in all three top news categories.
The station beat out KCOP-TV, KTLA-TV and KGTV of San Diego for top honors.
In all, KCAL came away with six Golden Mikes, including awards for weather segment, sports news reporting, videotape editing of a single feature story, videotape editing of a feature series or special, and news videography of a single feature story.
Other winners in top television categories were KBAK-TV, Bakersfield (Div. B) , news broadcast, 60 minutes, between 4 p.m. and midnight; KABC-TV (Div. A) KMIR-TV, Palm Desert (Div. B), news broadcast, 30 minutes or less, between 4 p.m. and midnight; KABC-TV, (Div. A) daytime newscast, any length, between 4 p.m. and midnight.
Winners in top radio categories include KNX (Div. A), KCSN (Div. B), best newscast over 15 minutes; KFI (Div. A), KLAC (Div. B), best newscast under 15 minutes; KMGQ, best newscast by a one-person department.
The RTNA, comprised of broadcast journalists and public relations execs, previously announced winners in all other categories (Daily Variety, Dec. 22).
