Bophuthatswana President Lucas Mangope Wednesday fired the entire staff of the homeland’s broadcasting corporation.
He told about 800 striking workers that the dismissal took effect immediately and they would be paid out their pensions.
Mangope said broadcasting would resume with a new staff.
Workers reps called the decision “a victory” and workers streamed away from the meeting chanting: “We are fired, we are fired.”
The African National Congress has been urging strikes in an effort to cripple the homeland’s government.
