Canada’s CTV gets five-year license renewal

The Canadian Radio-Television & Telecommunications Commission said it has renewed the license of the CTV Television Network Ltd. for five years, through Aug. 31, 1999.

The CRTC said CTV viewers should see more Canadian drama, children’s and other entertainment programming on the network in coming years as it implements key conditions set out in the CRTC decision.

“We found significant non-compliance in terms of the network broadcasting less regularly scheduled Canadian drama than it was required to offer viewers,” the CRTC said.

“Renewing the network’s license for five years, instead of the possible seven , will allow the Commission and the public an earlier opportunity to review its performance.”
