BVTV rules for ‘Judge, Jury’

Buena Vista Television Wednesday became the first major syndicator to announce a firm production commitment for a new fall 1994 strip, the hour hybrid talk-court series “Judge and Jury.”

The program has so far been cleared in 80 markets covering more than 66% of the country, including 13 of the top-15 markets.

Bill Handel, an attorney whose radio show “Handel on the Law” airs on KFI-AM, is the moderator.

“Judge” is being licensed under a one-year cash-plus-barter arrangement in which BVTV retains three minutes of national time and stations get 11.

A spokesman for the syndicator said clearances are expected to increase based on the response the show received at the recent NATPE programming confab in Miami.

“Judge and Jury” is competing in the new court-talk genre against Group W Prods.’ half-hour series “Jones & Jury,” which is now cleared in more than 60% of the U.S.
