Spanish-language KMEX-TV’s uninterrupted coverage of the aftermath of the assassination of Mexican presidential candidate Luis Donaldo Colosio Wednesday night scored big ratings.
According to Nielsen’s Hispanic overnight people meter index, an average of 332,000 Hispanic TV households turned to the station between 5:35 p.m. and 10:12 p.m.
KVEA, its Spanish-language competitor, was seen by an average of 123,000 households.
From 8:45 p.m. to 9 p.m., shortly after the candidate was pronounced dead, KMEX attracted 40% of all Hispanic households in the market. It also grabbed higher overall ratings during the quarter hour than KCBS-TV, KCAL-TV, KTLA and KCOP.
